Week 6 Eating Meeting: Saeng’s Kitchen
Last Thursday we met at Saeng’s Kitchen for the sixth Eating Meeting since my return from Argentina and election as president of the Book Club Happy Hour. Our desire was to get some decent Phở, but unfortunately our bowls of hot, steamy goodness didn’t live up to our expectations. I just sent out the Week 7 invites via Facebook and am looking forward to a better turnout than the previous weeks. We’re planning on meeting at Marco Polo’s, which I believe to have the best pizza pies in town. Shockingly, neither Jasons nor Jow have ever been there!

So far, I’ve been fairly happy with the variety and quality of food in the past six weeks. Saeng’s Kitchen had potential, but with Jasons’ impossibly high standards and my experience eating authentic Phở, neither of us was too impressed. Even Jow indicated his displeasure with a “so-so” hand gesture. After the meal, we opened our fortune cookies, each person reading their prediction aloud and offering an interpretation. My fortune read, “Your hidden talents will soon be revealed,” which has encouraged me to finish up the 12’ x 10’ canvas painting I’ve been working on. Jasons had an eerily similar fortune, which read, “The world will soon be ready to receive your talents.” I find Jasons’ prophecy fitting since he recently resigned from his soul-crushing job and now has the entire summer (and rest of his life) to chill at the beach, hang out with Jown and Jow, play on his supercomputer and make plans for moving to K-town. Floor (Alex Flores) also received an appropriate fortune, reading, “You will be called to fill a position of high honor and responsibility.” This is spot on; Floors will soon be leaving for medical school on the East Coast (Lame Coast, sorry Floors) where he will begin a career path that requires a high level of responsibility and is very honorable. Good job Floors.
Finally, Jow. He opened up his fortune cookie: “A wish will be granted after a long delay.” Immediately, Jow expressed that his wish to have sex with me would finally come true. Le sigh.
